Why support me?

I have spent the past 14 years of my life attempting to reduce my needs with varying levels of intensity, going so far as to become a Buddhist priest in Japan for a very brief time. I hope that in learning how I spend my time and what I envision doing in the future, you will more willingly participate in this educational project that cannot exist without your support:

  1. First and foremost, I hope to one day have the privilege of taking care of my mother when she can no longer care for herself.
  2. I utilize many free resources, e.g. The Feynman Lectures on Physics, and Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), e.g. Anki, and I hope to continue donating to these resources to keep them (ad) free.
  3. I participate in left-leaning political and social causes and hope to contribute to contribute to these causes not just my time but material resources when I have the means.
  4. I am (mostly) Buddhist and hope to contribute to relevant organizations not just my time but material resources when I have the means.
  5. In the future, I will open up a free school that challenges students to make their school a microcosm of what the world should be like, the only difference being that (most of) their classes would be replaced with their profession. Students alongside teachers work together to cook, maintain the grounds, vote on each year’s offered courses, and hold each other accountable to a set of ethics they have a say in. This would not be a ‘libertarian’ school in the American sense, where students do whatever they want essentially all the time; instead, students would be challenged to work together and learn together as they must in the real world. Of course, there would be ample time for individual exploration, too. All schools that match this model that I’m aware of are closed now except for one in Spain.
  6. Finally, I need to go to the doctor, attend weddings, and meet other everyday material and social obligations. I hope you do not mind this level of self-indulgence.

To pursue these intentions, I am currently charging $90/hour. I hope that as the project grows, I will have the means to charge students based on a sliding scale.
